Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…” — James 1:27
The Gospel is more than words spoken from a pulpit. It is love demonstrated through compassion, kindness, generosity, and service. It is reaching beyond the walls of the church to embrace those who need hope the most. In 2024, Saved & Free Evangelistic Ministry had the privilege of doing just that through a heartfelt visit to an orphanage—a day that reminded us all that God’s love is best expressed through action.
Our orphanage outreach was not merely an event on the ministry calendar. It was a divine opportunity to share the love of Jesus Christ with children who have faced life’s greatest challenges. It was a day filled with smiles, laughter, prayers, encouragement, worship, and unforgettable moments that will remain in our hearts for years to come.
While many people see an orphanage as a place where children live without parents, we saw something much deeper. We saw future leaders, pastors, doctors, teachers, entrepreneurs, and world changers. We saw children created in the image of God, each carrying unique gifts, talents, dreams, and a purpose designed by their Heavenly Father.
That understanding shaped every conversation, every prayer, every gift, and every act of kindness throughout the day.
A Ministry Beyond the Church Walls

Jesus never limited His ministry to buildings. He walked through villages, entered homes, visited communities, and spent time with those whom society often overlooked. He reached the broken, the forgotten, and the vulnerable with compassion and grace.
Following His example, Saved & Free Evangelistic Ministry believes that the Church must actively engage with communities, bringing hope where there is despair and demonstrating God’s love through practical service.
Our visit to the orphanage reflected this mission. It was a reminder that evangelism is not only about preaching the Gospel but also about living it. Every smile shared, every meal provided, every encouraging word spoken, and every prayer offered became a tangible expression of Christ’s love.
The children welcomed us warmly, filling the atmosphere with excitement and curiosity. Their joyful laughter echoed through the compound, reminding us that even in difficult circumstances, hope can flourish.
Preparing for the Outreach

Long before the day of the visit, preparations were underway. Members of the ministry prayed for the children, the caregivers, and the entire outreach. Volunteers worked together to organize donations, coordinate transportation, prepare activities, and ensure that every child would feel seen, valued, and loved.
Food items, clothing, educational materials, toiletries, snacks, and other essential supplies were carefully gathered. Every donation represented the generosity of individuals who desired to make a difference in the lives of these children.
The outreach was made possible through the sacrificial giving and faithful support of ministry partners, volunteers, and friends who believe that no act of kindness is ever too small when done in the name of Christ.
As the day approached, there was a growing sense of anticipation—not because of what we planned to give, but because of the relationships we hoped to build and the lives we hoped to encourage.
Arriving with Open Hearts

The moment our team arrived, we were greeted with bright smiles and eager faces. Some children rushed to welcome us, while others observed quietly from a distance, unsure of what the day would bring.
Within minutes, barriers disappeared.
Games began.
Songs filled the air.
Conversations started.
Laughter spread across the compound.
It quickly became clear that this day would not simply be about distributing gifts—it would be about building genuine connections.
The children eagerly introduced themselves, shared stories about school, spoke about their dreams, and asked countless questions. Some wanted to become doctors. Others dreamed of becoming teachers, engineers, pilots, musicians, or pastors.
Listening to their dreams reminded us that every child deserves encouragement, opportunity, and people who believe in them.
Sharing the Gospel of Hope
While practical support is important, the greatest gift we could offer was the message of Jesus Christ.
Gathering together, we shared a simple but powerful Gospel message about God’s unconditional love. We reminded the children that although life may not always be easy, they are never forgotten by God.
They were encouraged with the truth that they are deeply loved, wonderfully made, and created for a purpose.
We shared stories from Scripture about God’s faithfulness, His promises, and His ability to transform lives regardless of circumstances.
Many of the children listened attentively, asking thoughtful questions and participating enthusiastically.
Together we prayed, worshipped, and celebrated the hope that is found only in Christ.
More Than Material Gifts
One of the most meaningful lessons from the outreach was that children often treasure presence more than presents.
While the donated items were greatly appreciated, what truly made the day special was the time spent together.
We played games.
We laughed.
We danced.
We sang songs.
We took photographs.
We listened.
We encouraged.
We prayed.
Sometimes the greatest gift we can give another person is our attention.
For many of the children, simply having someone sit beside them, listen to their story, or celebrate their achievements meant more than words could express.
These moments reminded us that love is communicated not only through what we give but also through how we care.
Honoring the Caregivers
Behind every thriving orphanage are dedicated caregivers who invest countless hours nurturing, teaching, protecting, and encouraging children.
During our visit, we had the opportunity to meet these remarkable individuals.
Their commitment, patience, and unwavering dedication were truly inspiring.
They work tirelessly, often with limited resources, to provide a safe and loving environment for every child under their care.
We prayed for them, thanked them for their service, and encouraged them to remain steadfast in their calling.
Their work reflects the compassion and heart of Christ in profound ways.
Lessons We Learned
The orphanage outreach taught us lessons that extended far beyond a single day.
We learned that gratitude is not determined by possessions.
We learned that joy can flourish even in difficult circumstances.
We learned that every act of kindness carries eternal significance.
Most importantly, we learned that God’s love has the power to restore hope where it has been diminished.
The children reminded us to laugh more freely, to trust God more deeply, and to appreciate the blessings we often take for granted.
In many ways, we arrived hoping to bless others, but we left feeling deeply blessed ourselves.
The Heart of Compassion
Throughout Scripture, God consistently calls His people to care for the vulnerable.
Psalm 82:3 declares:
“Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.”
Proverbs 19:17 reminds us:
“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done.”
These verses are not merely suggestions—they are invitations to reflect the heart of God.
Compassion is central to the Christian life.
Every believer has an opportunity to become the hands and feet of Jesus by serving those in need.
Looking Toward the Future
Our visit in 2024 was not intended to be a one-time event.
It strengthened our commitment to making compassion ministry an ongoing part of our mission.
We believe that lasting transformation happens through consistent relationships, continued support, and faithful prayer.
Moving forward, Saved & Free Evangelistic Ministry hopes to organize additional visits, provide educational support, supply essential needs, mentor young people, and continue sharing the Gospel with children and communities across Nigeria.
There are countless lives still waiting to experience the love of Christ in practical ways.
The mission continues.
How You Can Make a Difference
You don’t have to be a pastor, missionary, or ministry leader to change a life.
You can become part of this mission by:
- Praying for orphaned and vulnerable children.
- Supporting orphanages with food, clothing, educational materials, and essential supplies.
- Volunteering your time and skills.
- Mentoring young people and encouraging them to pursue their dreams.
- Partnering with ministries that are committed to community outreach and compassionate service.
- Sharing the Gospel through both your words and your actions.
Every contribution, no matter how small, can become a source of hope for someone in need.
A Day We Will Never Forget
As we departed the orphanage, there were hugs, waves, heartfelt prayers, and promises to return.
The smiles on the children’s faces remained with us long after we left.
That day was a powerful reminder that ministry is not measured by the size of a congregation or the number of events held. It is measured by lives touched, hearts encouraged, and the love of Christ demonstrated.
Our visit to the orphanage in 2024 reaffirmed a simple but profound truth: every child matters, every life has value, and every act of compassion reflects the heart of God.
We are grateful to everyone who prayed, gave, volunteered, and partnered with Saved & Free Evangelistic Ministry to make this outreach possible.
Together, we brought more than gifts—we brought hope.
And by God’s grace, we will continue to do so for many years to come.
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” — Matthew 19:14
